‘Essential kit’ for breweries

This week, Marsden will be at BeerX, the annual event for members of the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA). As a member of SIBA, it’s our first time at the show, and it’s our chance to show breweries how the brewing process can be improved with accurate, reliable weighing scales.

At the show, which starts at midday on Wednesday, we’ll be offering SIBA members some generous discounts on the Marsden scales most popular with brewers.

These include the waterproof B-100 Bench Scale, low-cost B-200 ‘Boxer’ Scale, and IP-2101 Bench Scale, which is perfect for weighing small amounts of ingredients.

To coincide with BeerX, we’ve just published a new case study. The Brew Shed are based near Dunfermline, and recently purchased a B-100 and an IP-2101. Steve at The Brew Shed was so happy with his purchase, he sent us his thoughts - and also wrote a blog post on it, which can be found here.

Before discovering his Marsden brewery scales, Steve had been using kitchen scales, bathroom scales, even scales for weighing luggage - but none of these were accurate or convenient as brewery scales. “You could measure maybe 3kg at a time,” he told us.

Steve opted for the B-100 to weigh large amounts of grain - typically, 15kg at a time, and the IP-2101 for smaller amounts of ingredients.

“This is the perfect combination for weighing big batches of grain and then for weighing out small amount of hops,” Steve says in his blog post.

Plus, the fact that the B-100 is a waterproof scale (and the IP-2101 is what we call a ‘wipe down’ scale - it can handle a wet cloth to clean it down every day without water ingress). “In the tiny Brew Shed, there’s always the potential for water or beer to get everywhere. So for any brewer, far from being a bonus, waterproof is essential.”

Other features of the B-100 that Steve was impressed with included the fact that it’s portable - the scale can be run via the mains adaptor or from the internal rechargeable battery - the adjustable auto power-off, and the clear display of weight on the screen.

You can read the full case study here - and The Brew Shed blog can be found here. The waterproof, stainless steel B-100 Bench Scale can be found, and ordered, here.

Finally, if you’re attending BeerX, which takes place at ICESheffield from 16th - 19th March, don’t forget to visit Marsden at Stand 82!
