What is the M-420?
The Marsden M-420 is a lightweight, portable adult floor scale. The scale is Class III Approved and has a 220kg capacity and readings to the nearest 50g. This version of the scale features a white base for use by people with dementia and visual/spatial impairments.
What is a Class III Approved scale?
The Marsden M-420 is Class III Approved scale which means it has been built, tested, verified and calibrated to a specific standard. The NAWI directive oversees this standard and states all scales ‘used in the determination of mass in the practice of medicine for the purpose of monitoring, diagnosis and medical treatment’ must be Class III Approved. As Approved scales are subject to rigorous testing by an EU notified body, the user is assured that their scale is accurate and reliable.
Why is a white scale ideal for weighing patients with dementia?
With a white base, this version of Marsden’s M-420 (and this version of our M-650 wheelchair scale) are designed for dementia patients to make them feel more comfortable in their surroundings. The pattern, colour or texture of an object can increase stress and the risk of falls, which means that white scales are a more comfortable and safer alternative to the traditional black surface of many weighing scales.

Who uses the white M-420?
The white-tiled M-420 has been built with patients with dementia and visual-spatial issues in mind. For patients with these conditions, the white tile reduced risks of falls and stress which may be caused by a traditional black surface. This version of the M-420 is particularly popular with care homes and respite centres.
Why should I choose the M-420?
The Marsden M-420 is a highly robust and lightweight portable scale.
The scale has Hold, Tare and BMI. The weight reading can be reversed on the display, to suit which way you are viewing it, and a tap-on function (press your foot on the scale to power on) means you don’t need to bend down to switch the M-420 on.
The scale has Bluetooth connectivity available. Marsden does not provide software for receiving weight data from your scale. The M-420 is covered by the Marsden 4 Year Warranty.

What is the M-250 Chair Scale?
The M-250 is a Class III Approved medical chair scale with a lifting seat. This means less effort is required when getting a patient into, and out of, the chair, making it easier and less stressful for both the patient and medical staff.
Why is a lifting seat important?
Chair scales are essential when a patient or resident needs to be seated when weighed, especially for those with limited mobility. However, as with all wheelchairs, the greatest challenge for staff is getting the person into and out of the chair. Depending on how mobile the patient is, this can demand a lot of effort, and, in extreme cases, there could be risk of back injury.
The M-250 changes this. It provides a better user experience by taking most of the strain of getting the patient into and out of the chair.
How does the M-250 work?
A small handheld remote control is used to lift and lower the seat base. The movement of the ergonomically-designed seat is slow and smooth to ensure ultimate comfort for the patient.
Once the seat is at its lowest position, with the patient seated, an accurate weight reading will be displayed on the indicator.
The remote control can then be used to raise the seat, helping the patient up to standing position.

What is the M-545?
The Marsden M-545 is a portable, affordable Class III Approved floor scale. It has a separate indicator for weight sensitive environments. It provides accurate weight readings to the nearest 100g, upto a capacity of 250kg.
What is BSA?
BSA stands for Body Surface Area and is the calculated surface area of the human body. For medical purposes BSA is most commonly used by NHS DEXA scanners to help calculate body composition and dosages for anti-cancer agents. In fact, it is an important way to calculate dosages for many medicines.
Since the first BSA formula was created in 1879, there have been many subsequent formulas introduced. Marsden scales - which we believe are the only weighing scales in the world with BSA calculation - use the most popular formula, DuBois. This formula is believed to be the most accurate formula. Find out more here.
Why would I need to use a Class III Approved scale?
The NAWI directive states that all scales ‘used in the determination of mass in the practice of medicine for the purpose of monitoring, diagnosis and medical treatment’ must be Class III Approved. Class III Approved scales are used by hospitals, GP surgeries, clinics and pharmacies.
Digital weighing scales that are Class III Approved are built, tested, verified and calibrated to meet a specific standard. They undergo far more testing (by a notified EU body) than non approved scales, providing assurance to the user that they are accurate, reliable and provide repeatable results - essential for medical weighing.
Who uses the M-545?
This highly accurate scale has a separate indicator for weight sensitive environments where private readings are essential, such as GP surgeries, hospitals and clinics. The scale takes up minimum space in consulting rooms and can be stored away when not in use.
Why should I order the M-545?
If you need a Class III Approved weighing scale that’s portable, affordable and has a separate indicator for weight sensitive environments, choose the Marsden M-545.
The M-545 is covered by the Marsden 4 Year Warranty, and is highly robust for years of accurate weighing.
If you need a BMI scale, the M-545 can be used to calculate BMI, as well as BSA. Additionally, the scale has a Hold feature (to stabilise the weight reading on the display) and Tare (to remove unwanted weight from the reading, such as shoes). All features are accessible via the five buttons on the indicator, which has a bright, clear 3cm high LCD display.
The scale is powered by 6x AA batteries (which will provide upto 180 hours of use) or can be powered using the mains adaptor which is supplied. The integrated carry handle makes the scale extra portable, and a carry case can also be purchased.

What is the M-550?
The Marsden M-550 is an affordable, accurate professional digital medical floor scale. This scale is Class III Approved, which means it can be used for the purpose of monitoring, diagnosis and medical treatment. It weighs to a capacity of 160kg and is perfect for GP surgeries. Due to its Class III certification, this product only weighs in Kg/g.
What makes the M-550 a better choice than mechanical scales?
Traditionally, GP surgeries have used mechanical floor scales for consulting rooms. These dial scales can still be seen in use today; however, they are usually only Class IIII and will generally be accurate to 1kg.
With a 200g (up to 100kg) accuracy, the digital M-550 is up to 5 times more accurate than traditional mechanical scales.
The NAWI directive states all scales ‘used in the determination of mass in the practice of medicine for the purpose of monitoring, diagnosis and medical treatment’ must be Class III Approved. Therefore, not only does the M-550 weigh to a greater level of accuracy than traditional mechanical GP scales, it also has a more suitable level of approval for professional medical use.
Who uses the M-550?
The M-550’s high accuracy means this floor scale is ideal for GP surgeries and pharmacies. GPs like the larger base which makes it easier to weigh more frail patients and those less steady n their feet. The M-550 is also popular as a precision bathroom scale: home users wanting medically approved accuracy at an affordable price favour the M-550.
Why should I choose the M-550?
If you need an affordable, professional weighing scale that meets minimum requirements for medical use, choose the M-550.
The M-550 is Marsden’s lowest priced Class III Approved medical scale, yet has a range of convenient and easy to use functions and is also covered by the Marsden 4 Year Warranty.

What is the M-430BT?
The Marsden M-430BT is a lightweight, portable floor scale with Bluetooth for easy data transfer. This Class III Approved and MDD Approved scale is widely used by GP surgeries and health centres. It has been recognised by telehealth platform as an ideal scale to provide weight management services with their systems, and provides weight reading to the nearest 200g.
How do wireless scales work?
Marsden wireless scales are fitted with a Bluetooth module. The patient stands on the scale and the weight reading (once stabilised) will transmit from the scale to another device.
Presently, Marsden does not provide software for receiving data from wireless scales, however we can provide support and guidance if you are developing your own software to capture data from the scales. We have done this for many telehealth providers across the UK and Europe.
Date, time and BMI data can be sent from the scale via Bluetooth.
Who uses the M-430BT?
The M-430BT's Bluetooth connectivity options mean this scale is ideal for updating medical records via wireless transfer from the scale - either in a community setting or over secure hospital networks, thus reducing the risk of human error.
With Bluetooth connectivity, the M-430 has been highly popular with telehealth providers, as it means patients can be monitored in their own homes and their weight reading sent to a receiving device and then on to a monitoring station. Find out more about wireless scales and telehealth here.
Why should I choose the M-430BT?
The M-430BT is a highly portable scale for use in telehealth initiatives. It is MDD Approved and also Class III Approved which makes it legal to use this medical scale to monitor, diagnose and treat patients and target populations.
The 200g accuracy means that it is sufficiently accurate to weigh many of those with critical long term conditions (primarily COPD, chronic heart conditions, diabetes) and its strength and durability means it will provide accurate weight readings for years.
Even if you do not have systems set up to capture wirelessly-transmitted weight readings from the scale, purchasing the M-430BT means you are future-proofing your medical weighing devices. The straightforward Marsden protocols have made it simple for telehealth platform providers to link to their systems to enable the easy transfer of data from the scale. Weight data (gross weight, net weight, tare, date, time, BMI) is securely and simply transmitted automatically to the clinician by those patients benefiting from home monitoring.
An automatic hold of weight feature means that the patient does not need to bend down to stabilise the weight.
This scale is covered by the Marsden 4 Year Warranty.

What is the M-420BT?
The Marsden M-420BT is a lightweight, portable adult floor scale widely used by health visitors, school nurses and GP surgeries. It has Bluetooth connectivity for sending patient weight data instantly to a central database. This scale is accurate to 50g.
How do wireless scales work?
Marsden wireless scales are fitted with a Bluetooth module. When a patient stands on the scale, the weight reading, once stabilised, will transmit from the scale to another device.
Currently, Marsden does not provide software for receiving data from wireless scales, however in cases where our customers have purchased wireless scales the software generally works in the same way. The software is set up to receive the data from the scale instantly as soon as the weight reading stabilises on the display, and populates the record for that patient.
In some cases the software will automatically calculate BMI if the patient’s height is inputted; otherwise, this information can be sent from the scale. If the date and time is set up on the scale, this will be sent via Bluetooth.
Who uses the M-420BT?
The M-420BT is, like the standard Marsden M-420, is highly popular as a scale for health visitors, school nurses and GP surgeries - because it provides high accuracy readings and easy to use functions all in a portable design.
However, where the M-420BT is most popular is in telehealth initiatives, because the weight readings can be transferred via Bluetooth to patient records. The Marsden M-420BT allows care providers to monitor patients in their home, with, typically, the weight reading being sent automatically from the scale to a receiving device and then on to a monitoring station.

What is the M-420?
The Marsden M-420 is a lightweight, portable adult floor scale. It’s an easy to use scale, virtually identical to our M-430 Floor Scale, but has a much higher accuracy (50g increments as opposed to 200g). This makes it perfect when a highly accurate weight reading is required.
Why should I choose the M-420 over the M-430?
The M-420 and M-430 are both robust, portable floor scales. They are both Class III Approved and MDD Approved, therefore approved for weighing in a medical environment for the purpose of monitoring, diagnosis and medical treatment.
Where they differ is in their accuracy. As you can read here, the accuracy of the scale you use should be determined by what you are using it for. The 200g accuracy of the M-430 is suitable for many applications, however for more serious applications - such as weighing children, or weighing adults for critical treatment, the 50g accuracy of the M-420 will be more appropriate.
The 50g graduations will allow you to get a much clearer picture of changes in patient weight.
Who uses the M-420?
The M-420 is ideal for all hospital wards and departments, with its robust build suitable for constant daily use. Accuracy to 50g means nurses can get high accuracy weight readings for monitoring, treatment and diagnosis purposes. This high accuracy is also essential when weighing diabetic patients, calculating weight for specific antibiotics, for prescribing medication and for weighing children.
What other features does the M-420 have?
The M-420 is covered by the Marsden 4 Year Warranty.
This easy to use floor scale has a non-slip surface, with a robust casing meaning it can withstand years of use. It's light enough to be portable, too, and an optional carry case is available.
To use the scale, simply tap the surface with your foot and it switches on. The digital weight reading can be reversed, so it can face towards or away from the user. The Hold function means the weight reading stays on the screen even after the patient has stepped off.
The M-420 also has a BMI feature - you can enter the height of the patient, and then, when the scale reads the weight, BMI is automatically calculated.
Bluetooth connectivity is available for this medical weighing scale, meaning weight data can be instantly transferred from the scale to a central patient database, via mobile, tablet or PC. This makes the M-420 ideal for speeding up patient weight data capture, and makes it the perfect professional scale for telehealth initiatives.
The scale is powered by 6x AA batteries for over 100 hours of use (6000 weigh ins).
