What is the M-651?
The Marsden M-651 is a Class III Approved scale for weighing patients in wheelchairs. The ramps of the platform have a gentle incline, making it easier to push a wheelchair onto the scale for weighing. This model has the indicator mounted on a column, for much easier reading of the patient’s weight. The M-650 has a 300kg capacity.
How can you weigh someone in a wheelchair?
There are a number of Marsden weighing scales suitable for patients who cannot stand.
Hoist scales like the Marsden M-600 Hoist Weighing Attachment allows you to weigh a patient whilst they are in a hoist. Alternatively, if the patient is bedbound, a bed scale such as the M-950 can be used.
A chair scale - a wheelchair with an inbuilt weighing scale - can be used, but wheelchair scales like the M-651 allow the patient to stay in their own wheelchair whilst being weighed.
The M-651 is a semi-permanent wheelchair scale. It is not as portable as the Marsden M-610, however it is fitted with a handle and wheels to make transporting the scale easier. Because of its large, low profile base, it can accommodate almost any wheelchair. The patient can simply be pushed onto the scale, and an accurate weight reading taken.
To get an even more accurate weight reading for the patient, Tare/Preset Tare can be used to deduct the weight of the wheelchair from the display.
What is a Class III Approved scale?
Class III Approved scales are built, tested, verified and calibrated to meet a certain standard. According to the NAWI directive, all scales ‘used in the determination of mass in the practice of medicine for the purpose of monitoring, diagnosis and medical treatment’ must be Class III Approved. An EU notified body will rigorously test Approved scales to assure the user that the scales are accurate and reliable.
The M-651 is also approved under the Medical Devices Directive (MDD 93/42/EEC).
Who uses the M-651?
A low profile scale with easy access for wheelchairs uses, it is easy to see why many hospitals and care homes choose the M-651 for weighing wheelchair patients. The large, bright indicator which is column mounted is easy for many patients, nurses and care home staff to read, and the clear functions make it easy to use The 100g graduations means it is suitable for weighing for critical treatment, as well as other medical uses.
Why should I choose the M-651?
Choose the M-651 if you are looking for a more permanent wheelchair weigher for hospitals and care homes.
The scale has a 300kg capacity and accuracy to 100g. Because it is column mounted, the indicator is conveniently closer to eye level to make it easy to read. A BMI function allows the patient’s BMI to be calculated when their height is manually inputted.
Gentle incline ramps make it easier to push wheelchairs onto the scale. The internal rechargeable battery provides over 55 hours of continuous use between charges.
Extra features include optional Bluetooth connectivity so that patient data can be wirelessly transferred to a central database. A printer can also be added to a create a printed, permanent record of weight data.
The Marsden M-651 comes with a four year warranty. A Marsden service contract can also be purchased and this will keep your wheelchair scale reliable and accurate for even longer.
