Meet Marsden: A day in the life of our Sales Manager, Donna
Published on 22 Sep 2026
Behind every great company is an even greater team, which we’re fortunate to have here at Marsden.
Our extremely talented, hard-working staff are central to our precision weighing scale success story. They’re committed to helping our sector-wide customers work more efficiently and effectively. Many of our team members have been with us for several years, including our Sales Manager, Donna Jebson.
Donna’s been with us for more than a decade and is an invaluable member of the team, with her role spanning care homes, medical dealers and international customers. She works from home three days-a-week and from our office for the rest of the week. On these days, she’s never without a large Signature Latte from Costa, which she enjoys on her 30-minute commute into work. She’s also accompanied by her trusty Labrador, Lola. Here, she talks us through a typical day:
9am - logging in
I set up my laptop at one of the hot desks and log into my emails.
9am to 10am - tackling emails
Once I’m all logged in, I work my way through my inbox. Overnight emails from our export dealers are usually waiting for me, covering everything from quote requests and weighing scale order updates to stock availability queries, tender submissions and product sheet requests.
A typical morning might see me pulling together a quote for one of our dealers or providing them with key documents, such as Medical Device Regulation (MDR) certifications and Declaration of Conformity paperwork, to make our precision weighing scales available in their territory. I may also provide tender support, which involves coordinating all the necessary documentation and letters of authorisation back and forth. It's detailed work and getting it right makes a real difference to our dealers and their customers.
10am - reviewing performance
In these meetings, my manager and I sit down together and review how our current sales are tracking against targets across our care home, medical and export channels. We also take the time to look ahead - discussing what's coming up through the sales pipeline, wider priorities, and any logistics we need to get ahead of.
11am - following up
This is when I tend to hit the phone, following up quotes, discussing wider opportunities, handling stockholding enquiries and preparing for stock orders, as well as checking in with our existing customers.
12pm - lunch break
Lunch usually involves a salad or a protein-ready meal (treats for Lola) and a quick walk to refresh and recharge.
1pm - proactive planning & outreach
I tend to spend an hour or so proactively building and maintaining our contact database - laying the groundwork on accounts, making introductions, and making sure we have a clear picture of who the key contacts are at each business. I also regularly review our existing accounts, identifying opportunities to reconnect with lapsed customers and spotting purchasing trends that can help us better anticipate their needs.
Alongside that, I work closely with our Supply Chain Management team to stay on top of stock movements; whether that means arranging additional orders, fast-tracking urgent requests or finding suitable alternatives when something can't be fulfilled straight away. It's all about making sure our customers get what they need, when they need it.
2pm to 4pm - product training
Most days, it’s not uncommon for me to hold a product training session with a dealer, walking them through technical queries, spotting opportunities where additional precision weighing scale products could benefit their business, or following up on anything we've previously covered together.
Other times, I'll head out for an in-person dealer visit. During these visits, I sit down with purchasers and heads of sales to talk through our precision weighing scales and services, understand the direction they're heading in, and figure out exactly what support they need. It's about building a strong working partnership, not just a transactional one.
4pm to 5pm – wrapping up
The last hour of my day is usually spent back in my inbox, catching up on emails, raising quotes and keeping the customer database clean and updated. I'll also check in with the support team to see if there's anything that needs additional account management attention.
When I’m working from the office, I'm always on hand to help with any product awareness queries that come through. It's a good way to round off the day, making sure everything is in order and nothing slips through the net.
