How our animal scales helped a Coventry rescue centre get the purr-fect readings

How our animal scales helped a Coventry rescue centre get the purr-fect readings

Background

Purr Patrol is a recently launched rescue centre that has been set up to give cats and kittens across Coventry and Warwickshire a second chance at finding a happy, caring and secure home.

Accurately weighing the cats and kittens that come through its doors is an important daily task for the Coventry-based organisation. Having the correct equipment to carry out the weigh-ins efficiently and effectively is a key priority for the rescue centre, which opened last month (October).

The solution

We sent a set of our Marsden V-22 Veterinary Scales to the team. Specifically designed to weigh small animals, such as cats, rabbits and dogs up to 20kg, these premium vet scales are compact, portable and lightweight, making them effortless to carry around and use.

Easy to wipe down and keep clean and incorporating a removable tray that can be used as a stretcher, the Marsden V-22 animal scales also feature Tare functionality. As a result, any unwanted additional weight created by extra items, such as blankets or toys, is deducted from the final reading. Meanwhile, the automatic hold setting stabilises the weight reading, even if the animal that is being weighed moves around.

The results

Having their own set of Marsden V-22 cat weighing scales has given the Purr Patrol team peace of mind they can accurately weigh all of the animals that are in their care.

Before using our new cat scales, we had a set of unbranded, second-hand scales and struggled to correctly weigh our cats and kittens,” explains Purr Patrol’s co-ordinator, Kate Lammas.

“We need accurate readings to correctly calculate how much flea and wormer and other medication that’s needed. When a kitten first comes to us, we usually flea them right away and then worm then a week later.”

Some kittens are so small, they cannot be given a normal, stronger dose of flea treatment. They must be given a flea spray instead, which is gentler on their sensitive skin. Meanwhile, the vets that Purr Patrol use do not neuter kittens until they are around eight weeks old and weigh 1kg or more.

Kate adds: “Knowing the exact weight of the kittens means we can get them booked in for neutering, as well as the necessary vet checks, at the right time. This means they won't spend as much time in our care, and we can get them to their forever homes sooner.

Our range of animal scales and veterinary scales are used to accurately weigh animals, large and small.
