Reflecting on 100 years of Marsden with our MD, Lewis Davis
Published on 03 Jul 2026
It’s not every day you hear of a company celebrating its 100th anniversary. Rapidly evolving technological advances and economic challenges, as well as operational daily pressures are all at play for manufacturers across the UK and internationally.

However, we’re extremely proud to have bucked the trend and be here today to tell a different story. One of continued success, ambition and determination to carry on our journey and legacy of providing precision-engineered weighing scales and
industry-leading support for multiple customers across multiple countries.
We recently sat down with our MD, Lewis Davis. He shares his thoughts on our centenary milestone this year, what initially attracted him to Marsden, his future vision, use of AI and developing technologies, plus everything in between…
Q. What are your thoughts on Marsden turning 100?
A. It’s an incredibly rare achievement, especially given the fact the company has remained independent. Turning 100 is a real indication of the strength of our guiding principles.
We could have easily been swallowed up and acquired by a larger company, but we’re still here and still going strong. We’ve remained true to our values and diligently delivered on our vision that’s underpinned by providing solutions for sector-specific challenges and working to the highest standards and level of accuracy.
And, of course, we’ve also got our staff to thank for getting us to this point too. People make the big difference, and reaching 100 years is testimony to our incredible team, who are laser focused on getting things right for our customers. It’s why we offer such a dedicated level of validating, servicing and support because we want our weighing scales to provide our customers with optimum results that are as accurate as humanly possible.
Q. How do you make sure Marsden continues to move forward in these technological-driven times?
A. By listening to our customers via our network of sales and service teams, who work directly with our customers, in the UK and globally, every day. They’re there on the front line, seeing where the biggest challenges lie, and using this invaluable insight and the latest tech advances to adapt our solutions, as required.
In today’s digital era, people want things to be bigger, better and faster, and we’re keen to make sure our weighing scales follow this trajectory. We’re constantly monitoring the sectors in which we operate and looking for ways to continuously enhance our products. We’re also harvesting data to provide early warning systems and make sure our planned preventative maintenance eliminates unexpected and unwanted downtime for our customers.
Q. What about AI? What role do you see it playing over the coming years?
A. AI does have a future at Marsden, particularly in relation to body mass index and body composition analysis and the large volumes of data gathering and analysis that can be obtained and generated.
Weighing scales have always played a pivotal part in weight and obesity and disease management, and as they continue to evolve with the latest technological developments, they will also inevitably play a key role in monitoring patients’ wider health and wellbeing, not just within clinical settings, but in the comfort of their home. We will continue to closely monitor the latest developments as they emerge and, in true Marsden fashion, incorporate them, wherever possible, as we strive to continuously push the boundaries of precision weighing scale development and design.
Q. Finally, what does the future look like for Marsden?

A. We’re in a great place to further build upon our success by continuing to broaden our reach internationally. We’re highly respected, have remained independent, and have the right people behind us and the right approach to working with our customers and the right products, and we’ve got 100 years’ experience; not many companies can say that.
Our strong legacy coupled with our commitment to keeping our finger on the pulse of what our customers need and what technology is doing, will enable us to continue to forge ahead and reinforce our status as a trusted, forward-thinking weighing scales provider with a long-lasting impact.
