Enabling Humans MCR to fight food poverty more efficiently

Background

Humans MCR is an established charity that’s dedicated to serving up a generous helping of support to countless people across Greater Manchester.

Making sure accessing nutritious food is a seamless and stress-free experience for individuals and families in need sits at the heart of the charity’s work. Its food bank and community grocers are designed to be easily accessible to all, so that no one ever has to go hungry at mealtimes or feel unable to reach out for help.

Humans MCR’s impact is widespread across Manchester, Salford, Bury and Bolton. Such is the demand for its support, that the charity has gone from strength-to-strength over the years – it currently helps in the region 2,000 people every month. Since its inception in 2019, the team has delivered in excess of 131,000 meals and prevented more than 16,281kg of good quality food going to waste.

On a day-to-day basis, sorting and packing dozens of grocery and other food items efficiently and effectively is an essential task for its volunteers. Being able to use weighing scales that are designed to deliver, and also make their job that little bit easier, was on their wish list.

The solution

Upon hearing about the charity’s incredible work and the significant strides it has made so far in helping local people tackle food insecurity with dignity and respect, we donated two of our B-100 Waterproof Bench Scales to them.

These scales are IP68 Stainless Steel food industry grade-rated, simple and easy to use (just four function keys) – they can be used continuously for up to 40 hours. There are no wires and the internal 6V4Ah battery can be recharged. Alternatively, the scales can be plugged into the mains.

The results

Our scales have made a massive difference, thanks to the fact they are straightforward to use, have a large capacity (ranging from 3kg up to 30kg) and produce precision accuracy results every time they’re used.

“They’re so simple to use. Being able to use them after using our old set of scales has been transformative,” explains Lewey Hellewell, Founder of Humans MCR.

“The team are certainly much happier – they can weigh bigger quantities in one go, which has reduced the amount of time we spend weighing. Some of our older volunteers sometimes used to struggle to read the display on our old scales, but the display on the Marsden equipment is super clear.”

Our range of industrial weighing scales have been at the forefront of precision weighing since 1926. To find out more about our how scales can help you work more efficiently and effectively, complete the short form on this page or email us at support@marsdengroup.co.uk
