How Man v Fat are using our scales to score accurate results
Published on 04 Mar 2026
Background
MAN v FAT is a sporting challenge with a difference. As well as setting their sights on scoring goals and conversions, players focus on reducing their waistline.
Established since 2014, MAN v FAT is an organisation on a major mission - to help men across the UK, and more recently in the US, lose weight and improve their health. With more than 150 nationwide clubs and more than 8,500 members, the MAN v FAT revolution is gaining momentum by the day, with an impressive 90% of participants losing weight.*
Every week, players are weighed with precision accuracy before competing in a football match or a rugby game here in the UK, and a soccer game in the US. Their individual weight loss contributes towards overall team league performance, combining accountability, motivation and camaraderie, all geared towards sustaining long-term success.
Capturing accurate readings is essential to making sure everybody has absolute clarity on their personal weight loss goals and overall journey. Investing in the right set of scales is pivotal to obtaining those all-important precision accuracy readings.
The solution
Every day, MAN v FAT members start their sessions by stepping on our medical weighing scales to obtain their latest reading. Every pound impacts personal results, as well as overall team scores.
Highly accurate results call for highly accurate equipment, which is why the MAN v FAT team turned to us to supply all their clubs with Marsden scales. We selected our M-545 model because it's extremely portable and easy to set up. What’s more, is it is specifically designed to weigh people with high BMI readings, making them the ideal solution for MAN v FAT’s needs.
The results
With 180 sets of our scales set up in their extensive network of clubs, MAN v FAT has absolute peace of mind that every single reading is 100% accurate.
And thanks to their straightforward functionality, they’re quick and easy for MAN v FAT’s coaches to set up and use.
“We used other scales before using the M-545 and M-565, but they just didn’t compare,” says Terry Dowding, MAN v FAT’s Global Operations Manager.
“It was a real challenge finding Class III-approved scales with a 250kg capacity that were also portable and easy for our coaches to transport and store. But thanks to Marsden, all we need to do is use the weigh in function (kg) and let the scales do the rest!
“Our coaches set them up simply with a single button and the scales allow for lots of readings to be taken in quick succession. They’re also mains and battery operated, which means they’re highly reliable. We also like the fact that they have a high capacity, but are still capable of registering smaller increments (100g).”
Our floor and stand on weighing scales are used in a wide range of settings to provide fast and reliable readings, every time. Meanwhile, when combined with our robust carry case, our floor scales provide a truly portable weighing solution.
