How we raced to the rescue of Yarmouth Greyhound Homefinders
Published on 26 Feb 2026
Yarmouth Greyhound Homefinders is a small independent charity based in North Norfolk. Over the last 26 years, the organisation has helped rehome more than 2,600 ex-racing greyhounds.
“Most of our hounds come to us from trainers at Yarmouth Stadium. We usually have around ten dogs in the kennels waiting for their forever home and another 60 on the waiting list,” explains Jo, one of the charity’s trustees.
The charity employs a kennel manager and three part-time staff, who are supported by a team of dedicated volunteers, who help with fundraising, events and everyday tasks, such as washing the bedding and walking the dogs.

Weighing the dogs is also an equally important task for the team because it enables them to monitor their health and reduce or increase their food intake. But when the charity’s dog scales were accidentally damaged by water, the team was unable to carry out this essential weekly task.
Jo adds: “By weighing the dogs, we can spot any changes and adjust feeding quantities, if necessary. We can also weigh dogs when they visit post-adoption too, which is helpful for their new owners.”
The solution
We provided Yarmouth Greyhound Homefinders with a set of our Marsden V-180 Large Veterinary Scales. Designed to weigh mid to large-sized animals up to 180kg, these animal scales are lightweight and incorporate simple weighing functions, a large, clear LCD display and an integral handle, making them highly portable.

Easy to wipe down and keep clean, the Marsden V-180 vet scales also feature Tare functionality. As a result, any unwanted additional weight created by extra items, such as blankets or toys, is deducted from the final reading. Meanwhile, the automatic hold setting stabilises the weight reading, even if the animal that is being weighed moves around.
The results
Receiving the set of Marsden V-180 dog weighing scales has enabled the charity to continue to easily carry out its weekly weigh-in sessions with its hounds.
“The scales are very easy to use - they’re simple for anyone to operate and are ready to use immediately after turning on,” explains the charity’s kennel manager, Molly.
“The display monitor is clear and bright, and the weighing scales are neat and compact, but big enough for our large dogs. The ease of use and fast operation is particularly useful when we’re weighing our whole kennel of dogs in one go.”
