Gym & Fitness Scales
What is the M-560?
The Marsden M-560 is a robust, high accuracy portable weighing scale for slimming groups, gyms and personal trainers. The scale has a 250kg (39st) capacity and has Tare, Hold and BMI calculation functions. A carry case is available as an accessory.
Who uses the M-560?
The M-560 is Britain’s favourite slimming scale: it’s used by more slimming groups in Britain than any other weighing scale.
The M-560 is based on the Marsden M-510 - a high accuracy, Class III Approved professional medical scale. Weighing scales used for medical purposes must be Class III Approved to ensure accuracy, reliability and repeatability when weighing patients. Whilst weighing scales for slimming groups do not need to be Class III Approved, the M-560 provides much greater accuracy assurance than standard slimming scales because it is based on a professional medical scale.
As well as slimming groups, the M-560 is used by gyms, personal trainers and sports clubs (particularly boxing clubs).
Why should I choose the M-560?
Choose the M-560 if you need a reliable, accurate weighing scale that’s portable and built to last.
The M-560 has a 250kg (39st) capacity and weighs to the nearest 200g (0.5lb). Weight readings on the separate indicator can be switched between g/kg and lb/st.
The scale features Hold (to stabilise the weight reading on the display) and Tare (to remove unwanted weight from the display, such as shoes). BMI can be calculated by entering the patient's height using the full numeric keypad. Three displays mean it's easier to read height, weight and BMI. The scale is powered by an internal rechargeable battery, meaning it can be used absolutely anywhere, with battery charge lasting 40 hours.
With its tough, hard wearing base - and built in carry handle - the M-560 is a truly portable stand on weighing scale. An optional carry case is also available.

What is the M-565?
The Marsden M-565 is a portable floor scale, that’s robust, easy to use and can weigh in st/lb or kg/g. It has a 250kg/39st capacity making it perfect for gyms, sports clubs and, particularly, slimming groups. Features include BMI and BSA calculation.
What is BSA?
BSA stands for Body Surface Area and is the calculated surface area of the human body.
BSA is widely used by NHS DEXA scanners to help calculate body composition and dosages for anti-cancer agents. In fact, it is an important way to calculate dosages for many medicines.
For non-medical use, BSA provides another metric on which to calculate body health. It can be used alongside weight and BMI readings to give a clearer picture of how healthy a person’s body size is. Find out more about BSA here.
BSA calculation on a weighing scale is unique to Marsden.
Why should I order the M-565?
If you need a portable weighing scale with a high capacity and has all the essential features you need from a scale, choose the M-565.
The M-565 is based on the Marsden M-545 - a high accuracy, Class III Approved professional medical scale. Weighing scales intended for medical use must be Class III Approved to ensure accuracy, reliability and repeatability when weighing patients. Whilst weighing scales for slimming groups, gyms and sports clubs are not required to be Class III Approved, the M-565 provides much greater accuracy assurance than your average non approved scale because it is based on a Class III Approved medical scale.
As well as BMI and BSA calculation, this scale features Hold (to stabilise the weight reading on the display) and Tare (to remove unwanted weight from the reading, such as shoes). All features are accessible via the five buttons on the indicator.
The LCD weight display is large and clear, and a separate indicator means the weight display is more discreet. The scale is powered by 6x AA batteries (which will provide upto 180 hours of use) or can be powered using the mains adaptor which is supplied.
An integrated carry handle makes the scale extra portable, and a carry case can also be purchased.

What is the M-430?
The Marsden M-430 is a lightweight, portable adult floor scale. It has been designed to be one of the most robust portable medical scales available, and is Class III Approved and MDD Approved.
What is a Class III Approved scale?
Class III Approved scales are built, tested, verified and calibrated to meet a specific standard. The NAWI directive states that all scales ‘used in the determination of mass in the practice of medicine for the purpose of monitoring, diagnosis and medical treatment’ must be Class III Approved. Approved scales are subject to rigorous testing by an EU notified body. This provides assurance to the user of the scales that they are accurate and reliable for medical use.
What does MDD Approved mean?
MDD Approved means that the device meets strict safety requirements enforced (in the UK) by Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). The Medical Devices Directive (MDD 93/42/EEC) is one of three directives that cover all medical equipment intended to be used to diagnose, prevent, monitor or treat.
With the exception of hoist weighing attachments (for example, the Marsden M-600) it is not a requirement for weighing scales to be MDD Approved, only Class III Approved. However most Marsden professional medical scales are MDD Approved as an extra seal of quality and reliability.
Who uses the M-430?
The M-430 scale is robust and long-lasting meaning it the ideal floor scale for Outpatients departments in hospitals, as well GP surgeries. Pharmacies favour a hard-wearing, easy to use scale like the M-430 for the NHS Health Check programme. The optional carry case means the scale can be used in the community without fuss too.
Why should I choose the M-430?
The M-430 is covered by the Marsden 4 Year Warranty.
The M-430 has a 220kg capacity and graduations to 200g. It is a highly dependable, digital alternative to dial scales, and widely used around the world. Its reinforced aluminium structure means it's built to last far longer than the average medical scale.
There is a simple tap-on featuring meaning there’s no bending down to switch the scale on. The scale has a non slip surface and adjustable levelling feet. The scale is powered by 6x AA batteries for over 100 hours of use (6000 weigh ins).
There is optional Bluetooth connectivity available for transferring weight data to a patient database. Marsden does not provide software for receiving weight data from your scale.

What is the M-550?
The Marsden M-550 is an affordable, accurate professional digital medical floor scale. This scale is Class III Approved, which means it can be used for the purpose of monitoring, diagnosis and medical treatment. It weighs to a capacity of 160kg and is perfect for GP surgeries. Due to its Class III certification, this product only weighs in Kg/g.
What makes the M-550 a better choice than mechanical scales?
Traditionally, GP surgeries have used mechanical floor scales for consulting rooms. These dial scales can still be seen in use today; however, they are usually only Class IIII and will generally be accurate to 1kg.
With a 200g (up to 100kg) accuracy, the digital M-550 is up to 5 times more accurate than traditional mechanical scales.
The NAWI directive states all scales ‘used in the determination of mass in the practice of medicine for the purpose of monitoring, diagnosis and medical treatment’ must be Class III Approved. Therefore, not only does the M-550 weigh to a greater level of accuracy than traditional mechanical GP scales, it also has a more suitable level of approval for professional medical use.
Who uses the M-550?
The M-550’s high accuracy means this floor scale is ideal for GP surgeries and pharmacies. GPs like the larger base which makes it easier to weigh more frail patients and those less steady n their feet. The M-550 is also popular as a precision bathroom scale: home users wanting medically approved accuracy at an affordable price favour the M-550.
Why should I choose the M-550?
If you need an affordable, professional weighing scale that meets minimum requirements for medical use, choose the M-550.
The M-550 is Marsden’s lowest priced Class III Approved medical scale, yet has a range of convenient and easy to use functions and is also covered by the Marsden 4 Year Warranty.
This 160kg capacity scale is perfect for GP surgeries, who like its larger base, lightweight design and low price. It features hold of weight, Tare and BMI functions. BMI can be easily calculated by using the buttons on the scale to input the height. Then, when the patient stands on the scale, BMI will be automatically calculated and displayed.
The M-550 GP Floor Scale is battery powered, needing just four AA batteries for 100 hours' continuous operation. A mains adaptor can be purchased as an extra.

What is the MBF-6000 Body Composition Scale?
The Marsden MBF-6000 is a Class III Approved body composition scale which is widely used in hospitals and gyms - and increasingly by sports clubs. Marsden body composition scales are closer to DEXA standard than any other body composition scale tested.
This scale has a printer for a permanent record of all the readings; this also makes it perfect for monitoring key fitness data for sports professionals, semi-professionals and the serious amateur athlete.
What is a body composition scale?
A body composition scale is a weighing scale that provides multiple measurements giving you a clearer image of body health that simply taking a weight cannot provide. All Marsden body composition scales are Class III Approved.
Body composition scales use bioelectrical impedance to estimate the fat content of your body. When you step onto the scale, a very safe and very small electrical current passes through your body. Electrical current flows through water, fat and muscle mass at different speeds, and therefore the scale can calculate how a body is composed of these elements based on the speed of the current.
What readings do Marsden body composition scales provide?
Marsden Body Composition Scales have been updated for 2019 and now provide even more body composition measurements. This scale now provides the following readings: Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), Total Body Water (TBW), Fat Free Mass (FFM), Fat Mass (FM), Body Fat Percentage, Muscle Mass (MM), Protein Mass (PM), Extracellular Water (ECW), Intracellular Water (ICW), Skeletal Muscle (SM), Visceral Fat Area Level (VFA), Metabolic Age (AGEM), Weight and BMI. The scale will also give you an overall health score.
For more information about body composition scale readings, download the product sheet from the Downloads section above.
All readings are provided on a print-out, meaning you have a permanent hard copy of your readings. This means these scales are ideal for personal trainers, fitness coaches and travelling consultants to keep track of their client’s composition and body health.
Who uses the MBF-6000 Body Composition Scale?
The MBF-6000 is provides highly accurate readings to gym and slimming club members. The scale is also portable (an optional carry case is available) for use by mobile physicians, physiotherapists, nurses or personal trainers. Dieticians also like this scale for its ease of use and comprehensive body composition readings.
Why should I choose the MBF-6000?
If you need an affordable, portable body composition scale, choose the MBF-6000. It’s easy to use and this version provides all body composition readings on a print-out.
This 300kg capacity scale was developed by Marsden and Hull York Medical School. The Marsden body composition range was found to be closer to DEXA standard than any other body composition scale we tested.
The MBF-6000 is Class III Approved - therefore approved for medical use - and is also approved under the Medical Devices Directive (MDD 93/42/EEC).
The MBF-6000 has Hold and Tare functions. Hold stabilises the weight reading on the indicator and Tare removes unwanted weight.
The Marsden MBF-6000 is a fraction of the price of its competitors and is backed by robust British research. It is covered by the Marsden 4 Year Warranty and can be ordered next-day from our factory in Rotherham when ordered before 1pm.

What is the MA601?
The MA601 is the most sophisticated body composition scale in Marsden's range. It provides a comprehensive analysis of health and fitness, allowing you to accurately and effectively monitor your progress over time. All body composition measurements are provided via Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA).
What is Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis?
Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis is a technique used to estimate body composition. A weak electric current is passed through the body, and the speed at which the current flows through the body determines the amount of fat, water and muscle content.
Advanced body composition analysers like the MA601 use BIA to provide a full breakdown of body composition. Traditional BIA body composition scales will use one frequency; the MA601 uses three.
For example, low frequencies have difficulty overcoming and passing through cell membranes, so are well suited for measuring extracellular water. High frequencies can pass through cell membrane walls, so they can provide intracellular readings.
How does the MA601 work?
Touchscreen operation means the MA601 is user-friendly and allows you to see your body composition results in seconds.
With shoes and socks removed, simply step onto the scale and enter basic information, such as age, height and name/ID, and when prompted, lift up the hand electrodes. Once the MA601 has completed your body measurement, basic results will be displayed on the screen. You can then press Print to see a comprehensive print-out of your results.
Why does the MA601 not have an athlete setting?
Traditionally, BIA devices have been less accurate for ‘abnormal’ populations such as athletes. A commonly used fix has been to offer a separate ‘athlete mode’, using specialised algorithms. Unfortunately, because there is no clear consensus on how to define ‘athlete’, oftentimes users wouldn’t know which mode to select, resulting in inaccurate results when used by ‘non-athletes’.
What’s more, sprinters and weightlifters are both athletes - yet their body types are very different, so an athlete mode that’s based on “endurance athletes” might be less accurate for “strength athletes, and vice versa.
What’s the difference between the MA601 and other Marsden body composition scales?
This scale provides even more readings than our MBF-6000/MBF-6010, including: Intracellular Water (ICW), Extracellular Water (ECW), Total Body Water (TBW), Soft Lean Mass (SLM), Fat-Free Mass (FFM), Body Fat Mass (BFM), Skeletal Muscle Mass (SMM), Percentage Body Fat (PBF), Body Mass Index (BMI), Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), Total Energy Expenditure (TEE), Phase Angle, Fat-free Mass Index (FFMI), Skeletal Muscle Index (SMI) and Impedance.
Another benefit is that the scale also gives recommended improvements for each client, based on their results.

A gym and fitness scale is a weighing scale that provides the readings a gym user needs, including weight and BMI. Marsden gym and fitness scales are easy for the user to operate and are typically used in gyms, health clubs, sports clubs and spas.
Marsden gym and fitness scales are the affordable choice and many are Class III Approved.
What is a Class III Approved scale?

Class III Approved scales are a legal requirement for medical use, and although not legally required in gyms they are a more professional choice for the gym environment. Using a Class III Approved scale in your gym also means there should be no discrepancy between being weighed by a GP or hospital and being weighed by your scale.
Check the individual listings above to see which scales are Class III Approved.
Which gym and fitness scale is best for me?

If you want your scale to provide more than just weight readings, the MBF-6000 an MBF-6010 measure Fat Mass, Fat Free Mass, Fat %, Total Body Water and Basal Metabolic Rate.
