What makes a stainless steel weighing scale right for you?

What makes a stainless steel scale right for you?

When browsing the Marsden range of industrial scales, you’ll notice there are many stainless steel alternatives. These scales often offer the same functions as their non-stainless counterparts – so why would you want to spend a little more money on scales that do the same thing?

For many industries, particularly the food industry and waste management, using a stainless scale is essential.

Firstly: What is stainless steel?

Stainless steel is a steel alloy which consists of iron, chromium, nickel, manganese and copper. Known for being hard wearing and resistant to corrosion and oxidation stainless steel has found multiple uses within many environments, including industrial applications and food processing. All Marsden HSS bases and stainless steel platforms are constructed from 304 food grade stainless steel. This is the most widely used austenite steel - and the most widely recognised in the food industry.

Stainless steel scales can be washed down

All Marsden stainless steel scales have a fully waterproof base, and with a whole array of indicators available with IP ratings ranging from IP65 to IP68, we have a weighing solution suitable for every environment. Waterproof scales are essential for many industries - including breweries, as this case study explains - so a stainless steel scale is ideal. Not only can they withstand spillages, but they can be washed down after use.

Stainless steel scales will last longer

Stainless steel scales are built to be long lasting as it is constructed from high quality components. Stainless steel is notorious for being resistant to corrosion and rusting. The scale is robust and sturdy - plus with an optional service contract, the scale will remain accurate for longer.

Stainless steel scales look the part

Marsden’s stainless steel scales are not only robust, reliable and accurate - they look the part, too. In many cases, the scale base is 304 food grade stainless steel, and the scales’ indicators have a large, bright display perfect for industrial environments. Also, in a case study last year, a fishmonger explained that a stainless steel scale looked more professional. “Customers associate stainless steel with being clean and hygienic,” they told us.
