What is the M-200 Chair Scale?

The Marsden M-200 is a premium, high capacity chair scale with an extra wide super-sized seat, useful for weighing plus size patients. However, its high accuracy makes it ideal for weighing patients of all sizes. The M-200 bariatric chair scale has a 250kg or 300kg capacity and 50g/100g graduations.

What is a Class III Approved scale?

Class III Approved scales are built, tested, verified and calibrated in order to meet a specific standard. A Class III Approved scale must be used ‘in the determination of mass in the practice of medicine for the purpose of monitoring, diagnosis and medical treatment’, the NAWI directive states. Approved scales are rigorously tested by an EU notified body to assure the user that the scales are accurate and reliable.

    Who uses the M-200?

The M-200’s high capacity, and its extra wide seat - more accommodating than standard medical chair scales - make it a common weighing scale for surgical wards. The M-200 is ideal for gaining the weights of frail and restricted mobility patients, meaning it can also be found in many care homes and nursing homes.

Why should I choose the M-200?

Choose the M-200 Chair Scale if you are weighing all sizes of patients, including plus size patients. Perfect for gaining weights of frail, breathless or restricted mobility patients, the M-200 provides high accuracy weight readings to Class III Approved medical standards.

The M-200 is very easy to use. Featuring our premium indicator, the scale has three displays, for weight, height and BMI. BMI is calculated by entering the patient’s height, which can be easily done using the full numeric keypad.

The M-200 has two rear brake wheels and fixed wheels at the front. An optional seat belt is also available.

  • Marsden M-250 Chair Scale with Stand Assist

What is the M-250 Chair Scale?

The M-250 is a Class III Approved medical chair scale with a lifting seat. This means less effort is required when getting a patient into, and out of, the chair. In most cases this feature could reduce the number of carers or nurses required to get the patient out of the chair from two to one.

Why is a lifting seat important?

Chair scales are essential when a patient or resident needs to be seated when weighed. However, as with all wheelchairs, the greatest challenge for staff is getting the person into and out of the chair. Depending on how mobile the patient is, this can demand a lot of effort, usually require two members of staff, and in extreme cases, there could be risk of back injury.

The M-250 changes this. It provides a better user experience by taking most of the strain of getting the patient into and out of the chair.

In fact, during testing, the lifting seat base was found to reduce the effort required to help a patient out of the chair by 70%.

Additionally, because of the reduction in effort required by staff, in most cases only one member of staff may be required where once there was a need for two.

    How does the M-250 work?

A small handheld remote control is used to lift and lower the seat base. The movement of the ergonomically-designed seat is slow and smooth to ensure ultimate comfort for the patient.

Once the seat is at its lowest position, with the patient seated, an accurate weight reading will be displayed on the indicator.

The remote control can then be used to raise the seat, helping the patient up to standing position.

Where can I find out more?

The M-250 is covered by Marsden’s pioneering 4 Year Warranty.

    What does MDD Approved mean?

The Medical Devices Directive (MDD 93/42/EEC) is one of three directives which cover all medical equipment, used in diagnosis, prevention, monitoring or treatment.

It is a requirement for hoist weighing attachments to be MDD Approved, and Marsden manufactures the only MDD Approved hoist weighing attachments in the UK.

What does Class III Approved mean?

For medical weighing purposes, Class III Approved scales must be used.

When a medical weighing scale is Class III Approved, it means the scale has been built, tested, verified and calibrated to meet a certain standard. According to the NAWI directive, all scales ‘used in the determination of mass in the practice of medicine for the purpose of monitoring, diagnosis and medical treatment’ must be Class III Approved. An EU notified body rigorously tests these weighing scales to assure the user that they are accurate and reliable.

Healthcare professionals nurses find the M-600’s features easy to use and mean getting a weight reading is quick and simple. A carry case is available for transporting the scale in the community.

Why should I choose the M-600?

In fact, it is an important way to calculate dosages for many medicines.

Digital weighing scales that are Class III Approved are built, tested, verified and calibrated to meet a specific standard. What is a care home scale?

A care home scale is a Class III Approved weighing scale used to assess the health of care home residents. It is common practice in care homes to weigh residents on admission, and frequently from then on, so it is important that the care home scale used is highly accurate and meets patients’ needs. Marsden’s care home scales range consists of chair scales, bed scales, wheelchair scales and hoist weighing scales.

What does Class III Approved mean?

Scales used in a medical environment need to be Class III Approved - this means they have been prepared, tested and calibrated to a specific standard, in accordance with the Non-Automatic Weighing Instruments (NAWI) directive.

The directive states ‘all scales used in the determination of mass in the practice of medicine patients for the purpose of monitoring, diagnosis and medical treatment’ must be Class III Approved. To achieve Class III Approval, the scales undergo a rigorous testing programme by an EU Notified Body, to assure the user that the scales meet the required level or accuracy, reliability and repeatability. Find out more here.

All Marsden professional care home scales are Class III Approved.

Why should care home residents be weighed?

“As a care home it is very important to weigh our residents to keep a check on their weight. As some residents may have a poor appetite which will cause them to lose weight, by weighing them regularly this evidences means that we are aware of the matter and what action to take” - Gemma Storey, Deputy Manager of Chapel View Care Home, Barnsley told Marsden.

The weight of a resident can be the first, and sometimes, the only indication of poor health. The weight of the resident is one of the first things that will be found out following admission.

Furthermore, malnutrition affects up to 42% of care home residents, with a clear link between malnutrition and low body weight. More information can be found in this white paper.

How do I know which care home scale to choose?

There are many weighing solutions are available for weighing in care homes, with a choice of capacities, up to the 1000kg-capacity M-950 Bed Weigher.

Marsden chair scales are comfortable and easy to use. The Marsden M-200 is a premium, medically approved 250kg/300kg chair scale with a large seat, perfect for all care home residents.

The M-610 weigh beams are ideal for almost any wheelchair, as the beams can be positioned the ideal distance apart to accommodate every size of chair. The Tare function means the weight of the chair can then be easily deducted to leave the patient’s weight on the display.

The M-600, and the slightly larger M-605, are MDD Approved. These are the only MDD Approved hoist weighing attachments available in the UK, making them the only hoist weighers legal for medical use. Both are lightweight, battery powered and easy to use.

The M-650 is a professional weighing platform perfect for care home residents in wheelchairs. It has an easy to use indicator with functions such as BMI, and Tare can be used to remove the weight of the wheelchair.

The M-950 is a bed weighing scale and consists of lightweight pads ideal for portable bed weighing. Manufactured in our factory in South Yorkshire, the M-950 is a popular bed weighing solution in hospitals and care homes around the world.
