  • Marsden B-450 Small Bench Scale

What is the B-450 Bench Scale?

The Marsden B-450 is a high precision, stainless steel weighing scale with IP67-certified protection from moisture and dust. It is available with two capacity options, 3kg and 5kg, with precision weighing to 0.1g or 1g respectively.

  • Marsden B-100 Waterproof Bench Scale

What is the B-100 Bench Scale?

The Marsden B-100 Bench Scale is our best-selling stainless steel scale. Truly waterproof, its IP68 rating means it can withstand some of the most punishing environments, and can be hosed down at the end of the day. It is powered by internal rechargeable battery (providing at least 40 hours’ continuous use), and has a choice of capacities from 3kg x 0.2g to 30kg x 5g.

What does the IP rating mean?

The B-100 is IP68 rated. The IP rating is referring to the scale’s level of protection. The first digit (e.g. ‘6’) refers to scale’s protection to dust. The second digit (in this case ‘8’) denotes the level of protection against water and other liquids.

IP65 rated scales are protected against moisture when wiped down with a damp cloth. Scales which are IP67 are splashproof, protected against moisture and can be washed down. IP68 scales, like the B-100, are waterproof and can survive in punishing environments. More information can be found here.

What are stainless steel bench scales used for?

Stainless steel bench scales, particularly the B-100, are commonly used in the food and drinks industry. The IP68 rating makes this scale ideal for use in bakeries, breweries and fishmongers.

Marsden B-100 are used for many different purposes, but will typically be used to weigh produce and ingredients. Their high accuracy, clear display and the fact that they can be washed down means they are highly suited to these tasks.

Why should I choose the B-100?

Choose the B-100 if you need a fully waterproof, highly accurate scale that’s easy to use.

This bench scale’s entire casing is stainless steel. It is powered by an internal rechargeable battery. A mains lead is included, which can be stored inside the scale.

The B-100 has a bright red LED digital display both front and rear and a full range Tare. As a durable, waterproof solution that can be used as a counting scale, check weighing scale, kitchen scale, parcel scale or lab scale, the B-100 represents fantastic value for money.

This scale complies to Reg (EC) 1935/2004 (Materials & Articles intended to come into contact with food).

Watch the video above to see the B-100 at JH Mann Fishmongers in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. The B-100 is even dropped into a bucket of water to test its IP68 rating.

  • Marsden B-100 Waterproof Bench Scale (Non-Rechargeable)

What is the B-100 Bench Scale?

The B-100 is Marsden’s best-selling waterproof weighing scale. The IP68 certification means this bench scale can withstand use in some of the most punishing locations. This version is powered by non-rechargeable batteries meaning there is no need to recharge the scale when battery power is low or find a mains socket for charging - simply replace the 6x AA batteries.

What does the IP rating mean?

The B-100 Bench Scale is IP68 rated. The scale’s IP rating refers to the scale’s level of protection. The first digit (e.g. ‘6’) shows the scale’s protection to dust. The second digit (in this case ‘8’) denotes the level of protection against water and other liquids.

IP65 rated scales are protected against moisture when wiped down with a damp cloth. Scales which are IP67 are splashproof, protected against moisture and can be washed down. IP68 scales are waterproof and can survive in harsh environments. More information can be found here.

    Who uses the non-rechargeable B-100?

We launched the non-rechargeable B-100 following feedback from customers. Some users - like those who are using the B-100 out in a field for many hours (for example, fruit picking) - found returning the B-100 back to their base to be recharged was inconvenient.

They needed an accurate, waterproof scale that could be used for many hours at a time. Then, when the battery power did run out, instead of looking for a socket to recharge the scale, they could simply replace the batteries and continue to use the scale.

Fully charged, 6x AA batteries provide at least 200 hours of continuous use.

    Why should I choose the non-rechargeable B-100?

Choose this version of the B-100 if you need a waterproof, high accuracy bench scale that can be used anywhere, without needing to be recharged when its battery runs flat.

Just like our standard rechargeable battery-powered B-100, this version also has a bright red LED display front and rear. There are also full range Tare and Counting features, and a hi/lo alarm. Capacity options are 3kg, 7.5kg, 15kg and 30kg, giving you accuracies of 0.2g, 0.5g, 1g, 2g and 5g respectively - select from the drop-down menu above.

Please note: the mains adaptor from the standard B-100 cannot be used with the non-rechargeable B-100.

You can see the B-100 in the video above, where this IP68 scale proves its waterproof credentials by being submerged in a bucket of water.

What is a Trade Approved Scale?

A Trade Approved scale is one that can be used in the process of buying or selling goods based on weight. Using these scales for such a purpose is a legal requirement.

If you need guidance on whether you should be using a Trade Approved scale speak to the Marsden team on 01709 364296.

A Trade Approved scale differs from a standard weighing scale in that it undergoes far more testing. A scale becomes Trade Approved once it has passed a rigorous test programme conducted by a Notified Body and it has been issued with a Type Approval Certificate. This process is in place to protect both the customer and the seller.

Trade Approved scales are often also referred to as Class III Approved scales. All Trade Approved scales from Marsden have verification fees included in the price.

What does the IP68 rating mean?

In the case of scales in the Marsden range, IP65 means the scale can be used in humid environments and can be wiped down, IP67 means the scale is more durable and can be washed down, and IP68 indicates the scale is fully waterproof.

What are waterproof scales?

Waterproof scales are weighing scales built to withstand regular exposure to water. A truly waterproof weighing scale will carry a high IP rating – IP68 or higher. You will rarely see weighing scales with an IP rating higher than 68, and there are many waterproof scales and washdown scales in the Marsden range certified IP68. More often than not, waterproof scales are stainless steel.

What is an IP rating?

IP stands for Ingress Protection and denotes how well protected the scale’s internal components are against intrusion from foreign bodies (such as dust and dirt) and water or moisture. This is an international standard (British BS EN 60529:1992, European IEC 60509:1989) and makes it easier for you to determine which scale has adequate protection for your needs.

Can a weighing scale be waterproof if it doesn’t have an IP rating?

An IP certification confirms that a weighing scale has undergone testing to determine its protection against ingress from water and dust. You may find weighing scales listed as waterproof or splashproof that do not have an IP rating, but without IP certification you are only going on the manufacturer or seller’s word that the scale will not be damaged if subjected to water or dust.

What do the ratings mean?

The first digit (e.g in the case of an IP68 scale, the 6) refers to the scale’s protection against dust and dirt. The second digit refers to the scale’s protection against moisture.

All Marsden scales with an IP rating are rated 6 against dust and dirt, which means they are protected against dust and dirt that may harm equipment. Here are the official definitions for the second digit:

5: Protected against water spray from all directions (Marden scales with IP65 certification are referred to as ‘wipedown’)

7: Protection against strong water jets and waves (Marden scales with IP67 certification are referred to as ‘splashproof’ or 'washdown scales')

8: Protected against temporary immersion (Marden scales with IP68 certification are referred to as ‘waterproof’)
