What is a Trade Approved Scale?
A Trade Approved scale is a weighing scale suitable for applications where the price of an item is based on its weight. For these applications, it is a legal requirement to use a Trade Approved (also referred to as a Class III Approved) scale.
A Trade Approved scale differs from a standard weighing scale in that it undergoes far more testing. A scale becomes Trade Approved once it has passed a rigorous test programme conducted by a Notified Body and it has been issued with a Type Approval Certificate. Trade Approved status provides assurance to the user that the scale has reached a minimum level of quality and is fit for purpose, and protects the customer, ensuring what they pay corresponds accurately with the item’s weight.
Every Trade Approved scale must be fully checked and tested before it leaves the Marsden factory. Verification fees are included in the price shown above.

What is the P-JIK-APP?The Marsden P-JIK-APP is a durable mild steel Legal For Trade platform scale, ideal for automating weighing processes. With a range of accessories, this scale allows you to send weight information directly to your computer, print sticky labels for weight readings and also control other devices. This means you can set up auto filling and weighing systems that require less human involvement. Ultimately, automating weighing, filling and batching using the P-JIK-APP can save you time and money.
The P-JIK-APP is built for weighing large bulky items, particularly palletised goods, with capacity options up to 3 tonnes. It is Trade Approved, which means it should be used when you are basing a price of an item on its weight. This is a Trading Standards requirement.
How can weight data be recorded?
As standard, the P-JIK-APP is fitted with an RS-232 output. This means it can be used with the optional Scale to PC USB Lead, which allows weight information to be sent from the scale to a desktop or laptop PC.
The Scale to PC USB Lead simply plugs into your PC's USB port. Open an Excel spreadsheet, place an item on the scale, press Print on the indicator keypad and the weight reading will appear in your spreadsheet. In fact, the weight reading can populate almost any document, as long as it is editable. You can add the Scale to PC USB Lead to your cart from the Accessories list. A wireless version is also available.
How can I print from these scales?
You can print sticky labels - that include weight, date and time information - directly from the P-JIK-APP. The GP-3120 Thermal Sticky Label Printer available from the Accessories list (alternatively, add it to your cart here) prints sticky backed, 56mm x 56mm labels as standard. Marsden can supply label widths upto 76mm if needed, however. Connect the printer to the scale, add an item to the scale, press Print on the indicator keypad and Net Weight, Gross Weight, Tare, Weight, Date and Time can all be printed. If the scale is in Count mode, the count information can be printed instead.
What are automated weighing processes?
You can save money and time further with the optional relay board. This allows you to automate processes that would otherwise be handled by an operative. For example, if you are weighing sacks of product as they are fed from a hopper, the scale can be connected to the hopper and switch off the feed when a target weight for each sack has been hit.
Additionally, the in-built hi/lo alarm will help with hitting the right target weights without constantly monitoring the scale. The hi/lo alarm is a standard feature; its red/amber/green display denotes whether you are below a target weight, above a target weight or have hit a target weight. For even more weighing automation, choose the light tower from the Accessories list, or you can add it to your cart here.
Why should you choose a Marsden Trade Approved platform scale?

A 100mm height means it’s easy to load pallets or roll cages onto this platform scale. The 4 x 1000kg capacity loadcells are safely mounted within the structure of the platform - this protects the cables from damage by fork trucks when the platform scale is being moved. A wall bracket is supplied for mounting the indicator if required. The IP67 rating of the JIK indicator means it can be used in damp, humid or dusty environments.
This scale is particularly well suited to liquid filling tasks.

What is a Trade Approved scale?
Trade Approved scales are legally required when pricing a good based on weight - and failure to do so can result in penalties from Trading Standards. Trade Approved scales are subject to greater testing, for assured reliability, repeatability and accuracy during weighing.
Class III Approved scales, which Trade Approved scales are also known as, are used when ‘determining mass for a commercial transaction’. They are also required in five other weighing situations - more information can be found in this blog post. Trade Approval helps to ensure the consumer is protected against inaccurate weighing results, and are fit for purpose.
Trade Approved scales feature an ‘M’ logo on the scales dataplate. These scales are also referred to as Trade Stamped, Verified, EC Stamped or Trading Standards Approved.
All Marsden Trade Approved drive thru scales have verification fees included in the price. Read more about Trade Approved scales in this blog post.

What is a parcel scale?
A parcel scale is a weighing scale suitable for weighing parcels prior to despatch. Weighing parcels can ensure that the correct quantity of goods as been packaged, the vehicle on which they’ll be loaded will be within the legal weight limit, or give an indication of cost should a price be associated with the parcel’s weight.
Marsden light industrial and parcel scales are used widely in warehouses, despatch depots and in factories. In this category, you will find scales suitable for many different applications.
Which parcel scale do I need?
In order to know which parcel scales are most suited to your needs, determine how large the parcels are likely to be, how many you’re likely to weigh at once, where you will weigh them and whether you will be weighing them to determine a price for shipping or not.
The size and shape of the goods you’re sending out will dictate the size of the weighing platform you need. Of course, if your parcels are small, a digital bench scale will suffice - these come in various sizes and capacities and usually with integrated displays and platforms.
For simple weighing of small to medium size parcels, the B-200 and B-300 are affordable solutions that are portable and accurate. For slightly larger parcels, the MSS-I-400 has a choice of base sizes. Our MS-150 and MS-300 floor scales will accommodate larger parcels – upto 150kg and 300kg respectively – and these can be placed on the floor allowing you to easily pass a parcel over the scale.
For larger parcels and palletised shipments, choose from our range of platform scales and drive thru scales. In this category we have listed easy to use scales like the P-NA-I-100 Platform Scale and the DT-I-400 Drive Thru Scale. The latter can accommodate pallet trucks for even faster weighing of parcels.
If you are determining a price based on the weight of parcels – for example if you are a shipping company, parcel scales that you use will need to be Trade Approved.
What is a Trade Approved scale?
A Trade Approved scale is a weighing scale that has been tested and approved for legal use in the process of buying and selling goods.
If an item is being weighed, and a customer is being charged a price based on that weight reading, it is a requirement that the scale carried the ‘M’ logo and ‘III’ logo on its dataplate. These markings denote that this scale has undergone stricter testing and calibration procedures than standard scales and should therefore deliver a higher degree of reliability. This requirement is in place to protect the customer, and Trading Standards officers may check the suitability of weighing scales being used when they visit a business.
Trade Approved scales are also referred to as Class III Approved scales, Legal For Trade scales and stamped scales.
