  • Marsden M-900 Bed Weigher

    What is the M-900?

The Marsden M-900 Bed Weigher is a premium, Class III Approved portable bed weighing scale, suitable for hospitals and care homes. This bed weigher has a capacity of 600kg, making it ideal for use with bariatric beds.

How do bed weighing scales work?

There are many types of bed weigher available, but for true portability we recommend the M-900.

Two weighing beams with fold out ramps are placed in front of the castors, and the bed can then be simply rolled onto the weigher. The digital weighing indicator has a Tare/Preset Tare function, allowing the weight of the bed to be instantly deducted from the reading. This means that, with the patient in the bed and the bed on the scale, only the weight of the patient will show on the display.

Using the full numeric keypad, the patient’s height can also be entered and this means the scale will calculate BMI.

Once the patient weighing is complete, the weigh beams can be transported with ease by using the carry handles and wheels.

What is a Class III Approved scale?

Class III Approved medical scales, like the M-900, are built, tested, verified and calibrated in order to meet a specific standard. Class III scales must be used ‘in the determination of mass in the practice of medicine for the purpose of monitoring, diagnosis and medical treatment’. Find out more in the NAWI directive. To give the user assurance of accuracy and reliability, an EU notified body will test Approved scales rigorously.

Why should I choose the M-900?

Choose the Marsden M-900 if you need an easy to use, portable bed weighing scale which is suitable for weighing almost any bed, including bariatric beds.

This bed scale has a 600kg capacity and graduations to 200g. It features fold out ramps, wheels for portability and a full numeric keypad. The full numeric keypad means a patient’s height can be entered and BMI calculated. The three screens of the premium indicator show weight, height and BMI clearly.

For hospitals, care homes and nursing homes moving to telehealth solutions, this bed weigher, like most of our digital medical scales, has optional Bluetooth or Wifi connectivity for transferring patient weight data to central databases. Marsden does not provide software for capturing the data from the scale, but we can help with the set up of your own systems. For more information, please call us.

The Marsden M-900 is backed by Marsden 4 Year Warranty.

  • Marsden M-950 Bed Weighing Scale

    What is the M-950?

The Marsden M-950 is an easy to use, portable bed weighing scale. It makes weighing bedbound patients straightforward and hassle free with no discomfort to the patient. It consists of four pads that can be simply placed under the wheels of the bed, meaning there’s no need to move the bed to another room for weighing. A trolley is provided for transporting the pads between rooms and wards. The M-950 is Class III Approved.

What is a Class III Approved scale?

A Class III Approved scale is built, tested, verified and calibrated to meet a specific standard, so that it is legal to monitor, treat and diagnose patients. All weighing scales used for this purpose must be Class III Approved.

All Class III Approved medical scales undergo rigorous testing by an EU notified body to ensure reliability and accuracy and repeatability of readings.

How can I accurately weigh bedridden patients?

If a patient is bedbound, obtaining a weight reading can be difficult; however, in many cases an accurate weight reading is vital for administering the correct drug dosages or treatment.

If you need to weigh a bedridden patient, this can be done with the M-950 with no discomfort to the patient. Simply place the four weighing pads next to each wheel, switch on the scale and roll the bed onto the pads. For a truly accurate weight reading for the patient, best practice is removing the weight of the bed from the reading by using the Tare/Preset Tare functions.

An additional benefit of the M-950 is that the trolley allows you to move the scale between rooms and wards easily, raking the scale to the patient rather than the other way around. Alternatively, if you are weighing bedridden patients in the community, the M-950 can be purchased with carry cases to transport the pads and indicator.

    Who uses the M-950?

The M-950’s pads which can be positioned beneath the bed, mean that weighing can take place without the need to disturb bed bound patients. This is beneficial to a number of hospital wards and departments, particularly in palliative care and intensive care. The M-950 is also an easy to use scale for weighing care home patients.

Why should I choose the M-950?

Choose the M-950 if you need to weigh bedbound patients - and need a portable solution which can be moved between rooms, either by using the carry handles on each pad, the trolley or carry cases.

The pads are low profile, making this a bed weighing system suitable for almost any bed, and making it easy to push a bed onto the scale. The scale features Tare (for removing the weight of the bed from the display), Hold (to stabilise the weight reading on the display if the patient is moving) and BMI calculation functions.

The Marsden M-950 is made to order in our South Yorkshire factory - please contact us if you would like to find out about bespoke options available.

  • Marsden M-955 Large Bed Weigher

    What is the M-955?

The M-955 is a high capacity, Class III Approved bed weigher, consisting of an indicator, trolley and four low profile weigh pads. The pads of the M-955 are slightly longer than our standard M-950 Bed Weighing Scale, making it perfect for accommodating the double castor beds made by Medstrom. The M-955 can be purchased as a 1000kg capacity scale (with 500g graduations) or a 600kg capacity scale (with 200g graduations).

What is a Class III Approved scale?

Class III Approved scales are built, tested, verified and calibrated to meet a specific standard, as determined by the NAWI directive. All scales ‘used in the determination of mass in the practice of medicine for the purpose of monitoring, diagnosis and medical treatment’ must be Class III Approved. These scales have been rigorously tested by an EU notified body to assure the user of reliability and accuracy.

Why should I choose the M-955?

Choose the M-955 if you need to weigh bedbound patients, and require longer pads to suit double castor beds, such as those from Medstrom.

    The M-955 has a choice of capacity and graduation options: 1000kg x 500g or 600kg x 200g.

Using the M-955 to weigh bedridden patients is easy. Simply switch the bed scale on, place a pad next to each castor and roll the bed onto the scale. There are low profile ramps on each pad to minimise effort required to roll the bed onto the pads.

The weight of the bed can be removed from the reading, leaving just the precise weight of the patient showing, by using Tare and Preset Tare functions. The numeric keypad allows the height of the patient to be entered - the scale can then automatically calculate BMI.

The four pads included have integrated carry handles, making the M-955 a portable scale. Additionally, the M-955’s trolley makes transporting the pads and indicator easy.

This bed scale can also be connected to a printer for a permanent record of a patient’s weight, or choose the optional Bluetooth or Wifi connectivity for information transfer to patient databases (please note: Marsden does not supply software for capturing data from the scale).

Service contracts are available for the M-955 - call Marsden on 01709 364296 to find out more. This scale is covered by the Marsden 4 Year Warranty.

  • Marsden M-920 Stainless Steel Bed Weigher

    What is the M-920?

Marsden M-920 is a stainless steel weighing platform with IP68-certified waterproof loadcells, making the scale ideal for washing down. This low profile bed and trolley scale is most commonly used for weighing patients on admission, particularly those who are immobile.

What is a Class III Approved scale?

Class III Approved weighing scales are legal for medical use when weighing patients for monitoring, treatment and diagnosis purposes. A Class III scale will undergo thousands of tests to ensure it's reliable, accurate and provides repeatable readings. Non approved weighing scales do not undergo the same level of testing.

Class III Approved weighing scales can be identified by an 'M' logo, usually found on the scale's data plate.

Why are the benefits of a stainless steel bed weigher?

Stainless steel scales are chosen for their strength and durability. IP68 certification means the platform can be washed down to keep it hygienic.

Stainless steel weighing scales are also more durable than their mild steel equivalents and capable of withstanding constant use.

In most cases the M-920 is used to weigh patients as they arrive at hospital. Patients can be weighed on a trolley or in a bed, with the Tare and Preset Tare functions used to remove the weight of the bed or trolley from the reading.

Why should I choose the M-920?

Most Marsden medical weighing scales are fitted with the DP-3810 indicator, including the M-920. The indicator has Hold, BMI and Tare functions, plus a full numeric keypad and two screens so that BMI can be calculated easily by inputting a patient's height. The Tare function enables the weight of the bed or trolley to be deducted, and Preset Tare means you can save the weight of a bed or trolley into the indicator's memory. Then, simply roll the patient and trolley onto the scale, press Preset Tare, and the weight of the patient only is displayed on the screen.

The indicator can be mounted on a column or to a wall with the optional indicator bracket. An optional printer is available for creating hard copies of patient weights.

The scale has optional Bluetooth or Wifi connectivity, which means it can be set up to transfer patient weight and BMI data to a central database. Please contact us for more information about these options.

  • Marsden M-930 Pit Mounted Bed & Trolley Weigher

    What is the M-930?

The Marsden M-930 is a pit mounted bed scale, perfect for weighing bedridden patients or patients on trolleys as they enter a hospital. It’s Class III Approved and has a choice of capacities and graduations. It features Hold, Tare and BMI functions. An optional printer is available to have a printed copy of the patient’s weight. It is ideal for accident and emergency departments.

What are Class III Approved scales?

Class III Approved medical scales are legal for monitoring, diagnosis or treatment of patients. Non-approved medical scales must not be used for this purpose. Class III Approved weighing scales can be identified by an 'M' logo, usually found on the scale's data plate.

The Non-Automatic Weighing Instruments (NAWI) directive was made part of UK law in January 1993 and specifies the applications that require approved weighing scales. Only scales which use metric units are legal for controlled purposes.

    Who uses the M-930?

The M-930 is perfect for hospital departments, such as A&E, where the weight of a patient in a bed or trolley needs to be taken quickly. The scale is designed to be set into the ground meaning it can be flush with the floor - no ramps are required.

Why should I choose the M-930?

Floor mounted weighing scales are designed to be sunk into the ground. This means a patient can be weighed in a bed or trolley as they are moved into the hospital building or ward. Tare/Preset Tare can be used to remove the weight of the bed from the reading and get an accurate weight reading for the patient. The M-930 comes with a pit frame for positioning and supporting the scale within a pre-prepared pit.

The M-930 has a choice of capacity and graduation options: either 600kg x 0.2kg or 1500kg x 0.5kg. A choice of dimensions are also available.

The scale has a Hold, BMI and Tare function. The Tare function enables the weight of a bed to be deducted, giving an accurate patient weight.

The indicator can be mounted or a column or a wall. By adding the optional printer, a copy of the patient’s weight can be filed without the risk of human error.

The M-930 is backed by the Marsden 4 Year Warranty - double the industry standard for medical scales.

  • Marsden M-999 Patient Transfer Scale

What is the Patient Transfer Scale?

The Patient Transfer Scale is a revolutionary way to weigh time critical or immobile patients in seconds. It is a transfer slide with in-built weighing scale, and means patients can be weighed during lateral transfer from trolley to bed, or bed to bed.

What are the benefits of the Patient Transfer Scale?

Weighing a patient at the point they are admitted to hospital is made easier with the Patient Transfer Scale. In order to administer medication or treatment accurately, the patient needs to be weighed. However, with immobile patients this is not easy, with the only solutions being bed weighing scales or hoist scales, both of which can be cumbersome and time consuming.

Lateral transfer of a patient from trolley to bed or bed to bed is an already existing - and essential - procedure. Therefore, the Patient Transfer Scale allows you to get a weight reading for these patients without taking up any time.

This helps you to reduce door to needle times and meet targets, and medication or treatment can be administered faster and with confidence by healthcare professionals. It also means less stress for staff, less stress for the patient, and the patient can be weighed with dignity.

Why do you need an accurate weight for patients?

A patient’s weight can be critical to delivering the right care and treatment at the right time. Getting a weight reading is particularly important when medication or treatment needs to be administered fast; however, in many cases it is not easy to weigh the patient.

The more accurate the weight reading, the more accurate the drug dosage and the more effectively the patient can be treated. The Patient Transfer Scale means that weight readings never need to be estimated again - so better patient care and patient outcomes.

Gaining an accurate weight for a patient is required as part of the five MUST (Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool) steps, to identify adults who are malnourished or at risk of malnutrition.

How is the Patient Transfer Scale used?

The Patient Transfer Scale, or PTS, can be used in the same way as a transfer board. Simply place the PTS across the trolley and bed, and move your patient across in line with your manual handling/patient transfer policies. You’ll just need to stop for 3-4 seconds as they pass over the PTS in order for the weight reading to register.

The Hold function can be used if required to stabilise the weight reading on the display. Watch the video above to see the PTS in action.

Where can I find out more?

You can find out more about the Patient Transfer Scale, including the story behind the scale and its inventor, former NHS Emergency Department nurse Gillian Taylor, on our dedicated Patient Transfer Scale microsite. Alternatively, speak to the Marsden team on 01709 364 296 or message us here.

What is a bed scale?

A bed scale is a medical scale which enables a patient to be weighed whilst still in bed. Depending on the patient’s needs, bed weighing scales can be used in situations where moving the bed to weigh is or is not practical. Marsden bed scales are Class III Approved and are most commonly found in hospitals and care homes.

Bed scales feature a Tare and Preset Tare function, which means the weight of the bed can be removed to leave only the weight of the patient.

What does Class III Approved mean?

Scales that are Class III Approved have been built, tested, verified and calibrated to a specific standard. The Non-Automatic Weighing Instruments (NAWI) directive states ‘all scales used in the determination of mass in the practice of medicine patients for the purpose of monitoring, diagnosis and medical treatment must be medically approved’.

How do I know which bed or trolley scale to choose?

All bed scales available from Marsden are Class III Approved, easy to use and are highly accurate. They come in a range of shapes and sizes to cater for your needs.

The Marsden M-900 is a portable weigher with built-in carry handles; a bed can be easily rolled onto the scale via fold out ramps. The Marsden M-910 is an extra wide weighing platform which is easy to use by simply pushing the trolley or bed onto the platform. The M-950 mobile bed scale consists of four pads which can be placed under the base of the bed, providing easy accessibility as neither the bed nor the patient have to move between rooms.

A four year warranty is available with all Marsden medical scales.
