What is the M-225 Chair Scale?
The Marsden M-225 is an entry level Class III Approved chair scale. With a 250kg capacity and accuracy to 100g it is perfect for hospitals and care homes, and has all the essential basic functions required for accurate weighing of patients. This chair scale features BSA (Body Surface Area) calculation.
What is BSA?
BSA stands for Body Surface Area, and is the calculated surface area of the human body. It is commonly used by NHS DEXA scanners to help calculate body composition and dosages for anti-cancer agents.
BSA has been regarded as “the most reliable method of calculating drug dosages… for nearly 90 years,” according to the British National Formulary. We believe Marsden scales are the first - and only - digital weighing scales in the world to feature BSA calculation.

All Marsden chair scales are Class III Approved.

Who uses the M-200?
The M-200’s high capacity, and its extra wide seat - more accommodating than standard medical chair scales - make it a common weighing scale for surgical wards. The M-200 is ideal for gaining the weights of frail and restricted mobility patients, meaning it can also be found in many care homes and nursing homes.

What is the M-200W Chair Scale?
The Marsden M-200W is a Class III Approved, high capacity chair scale with extra wide seat, suitable for patients of all sizes. It comes with wireless connectivity to allow you to transfer data directly to a central database - meaning the M-200 is a future proof solution ideal for remote monitoring and telehealth initiatives.
How do wireless scales work?
Marsden wireless scales are fitted with a Bluetooth or Wifi module. When the patient is seated on the scale and the weight reading stabilises, information is transmitted from the scale to another device.
Currently Marsden does not provide software for receiving data from wireless scales. However we can provide help and support if you are configuring your own software. Many establishments are aiming to become paperless, and in the UK the NHS has a paperless target. The M-200W would help achieve these aims, as weight readings for patients would no longer need to be written down.
Date, time and BMI information can be sent from the scale using Bluetooth or Wifi.
Should I choose Bluetooth or Wifi?
You can purchase Marsden wireless scales with either Bluetooth or Wifi connectivity. The option for you depends on your needs and location.
Wifi scales are ideal for hospitals because they are fast and secure. Many new hospitals are built with Wifi in mind.
Over long distances Wifi scales are more suitable, but for creating software and connecting it Bluetooth tends to be the easier option. Marsden Bluetooth scales have formed part of telehealth initiatives across the UK and Europe for many years; simple protocols mean that weight and BMI information can be sent quickly and easily to purpose-built capturing software.

What is the M-250 Chair Scale?
The M-250 is a Class III Approved medical chair scale with a lifting seat. This means less effort is required when getting a patient into, and out of, the chair, making it easier and less stressful for both the patient and medical staff.
Why is a lifting seat important?
Chair scales are essential when a patient or resident needs to be seated when weighed, especially for those with limited mobility. However, as with all wheelchairs, the greatest challenge for staff is getting the person into and out of the chair. Depending on how mobile the patient is, this can demand a lot of effort, and, in extreme cases, there could be risk of back injury.
The M-250 changes this. It provides a better user experience by taking most of the strain of getting the patient into and out of the chair.
How does the M-250 work?
A small handheld remote control is used to lift and lower the seat base. The movement of the ergonomically-designed seat is slow and smooth to ensure ultimate comfort for the patient.
Once the seat is at its lowest position, with the patient seated, an accurate weight reading will be displayed on the indicator.
The remote control can then be used to raise the seat, helping the patient up to standing position.

What is a chair scale?
A chair scale is a wheelchair with an integrated weighing scale. It allows patients who are unable to stand to be weighed quickly, easily and with minimum discomfort.
Chair scales tend to have an indicator on the back of the chair, so the nurse or carer can see the weight reading, calculate BMI and, depending on the scale, send the weight data wirelessly to a central database.
Why should I choose a chair scale from Marsden?
Lightweight, affordable and easy to use, Marsden chair scales are assembled in the UK and are a common sight in hospitals, care homes and nursing homes.
As with most Marsden Class III medical scales, our chair scales are suitable for adults and children and all come with the Marsden 4 Year Warranty. Additionally, a Marsden service contract will give you greater peace of mind, keeping your chair scale accurate and reliable for many years to come.
All Marsden chair scales are Class III Approved, and the M-200, the premium model in our range, is MDD Approved.
What is a Class III Approved scale?
In the UK, the NAWI (Non Automatic Weighing Instruments) Directive on medical weighing states that if a scale is being used for “determination of mass in the practice of medicine for weighing patients for the purpose of monitoring, diagnosis and medical treatment” it must be Class III Approved.
Class III Approved scales undergo a rigorous test programme conducted by a EU Notified Body. This type of testing is not carried out on standard weighing scales, and ensures Class III Approved scales are reliable, accurate and provide repeatable readings (the weight reading is the same if a patient steps off the scale and back on again, for example).
MDD (Medical Devices Directive) Approval is not essential for weighing scales, however for extra assurance of its accuracy, reliability and quality, the M-200 is MDD Approved. The Medical Devices Directive is enforced within the UK by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).
What features do these scales have?
