What is a bed scale?

A bed scale is a medical scale which enables a patient to be weighed whilst still in bed. Depending on the patient’s needs, bed weighing scales can be used in situations where moving the bed to weigh is or is not practical. Marsden bed scales are Class III Approved and are most commonly found in hospitals and care homes.

Bed scales feature a Tare and Preset Tare function, which means the weight of the bed can be removed to leave only the weight of the patient.

What does Class III Approved mean?

All bed scales in the Marsden range are Class III Approved. Scales that are Class III Approved have been built, tested, verified and calibrated to a specific standard. The Non-Automatic Weighing Instruments (NAWI) directive states ‘all scales used in the determination of mass in the practice of medicine for weighing patients for the purpose of monitoring, diagnosis and medical treatment must be medically approved’.

How do I know which bed or trolley scale to choose?

Our bed and trolley scales are easy to use and are highly accurate. They come in a range of shapes and sizes to cater for your needs.

The Marsden M-900 is a portable weigher with built-in carry handles; a bed can be easily rolled onto the scale via fold-out ramps. The Marsden M-910 is an extra-wide weighing platform that is easy to use by simply pushing the trolley or bed onto the platform. The Marsden M-950 mobile bed scale consists of four pads that can be placed under the base of the bed, providing easy accessibility as neither the bed nor the patient has to move between rooms.

A four-year warranty is available with all Marsden medical scales.
